You can use the Suica transit card directly from your iPhone Wallet. No need to buy a physical card or queue at ticket machines. I tried it in Japan and honestly, it made getting around Osaka so much smoother.

No need to take out a card, open apps, or even unlock the phone. I just held my iPhone over the gate and walked right through. It worked instantly, even with the screen off.

Setting Up Suica on iPhone Wallet

  • Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.

  • Tap the plus icon in the top-right corner.

  • Choose “Transit Card”, then select Suica from the list.

  • Pick how much money you want to load

  • That’s it!

Recharge with Cash

If you don’t have a credit card connected to Apple Pay—or just want to use up your leftover yen, you can recharge with cash at train stations using ticket machines or at convenience stores.

Recharge with Apple Pay

I linked my Visa card to Apple Pay before the trip, so topping up was seamless. Anytime I needed more balance, I just opened the Wallet app and added funds in seconds. No need to hunt for ticket machines while navigating crowded stations! It saved me a lot of time and stress.

Tips

If it’s your last day in Japan and you want to use up the remaining balance on your Suica card, just grab a drink or some snacks from a vending machine or a convenience store at the airport.
